The small town of St. Johann im Pongau with the well-known district of Alpendorf
The main town (600 m) and cultural center of the Pongau is a traditional holiday destination with plenty of atmosphere. It is above all the well-balanced mix of visitors and locals that makes St. Johann and the surroundings a "lively" and varied holiday resort, even outside the typical seasons. Because of the beautiful and accessible location in the middle of the Salzburger Land, St. Johann is an ideal starting point for numerous Alpine meadow and cabin hikes, as well as for sightseeing and excursion destinations.
The district of Alpendorf is located in the direction of the National Park valley and differs fundamentally from the rest of the town. The Alpendorf is a largely independent "holiday island" in the green. Over 1,900 guest beds with mostly upscale gastronomy, approx. 3 km from the center, 800 m high at the foot of the Gernkogels. It is not only comfort, wellness and sport that's valued here, but there is also plenty to do for the children. The Ghost Mountain and the Alpendorf adventure playground offer numerous children's programs and attractions, from a climbing wall to a go-cart track, for playful entertainment for the little ones.
