"Cable car hiking"

Take the Alpendorf gondola lift to numerous hikes

In the spring, summer, and fall, the Alpendorf gondola lift will take you not only to the family excursion destination Ghost Mountain. The mountain station at almost 1,600 m altitude is also a good and cozy starting point for beautiful hikes in the hiking and meadow region around the Gernkogel, Hirschkogel, and Sonntagskogel.

Hiking tips

From the mountain station of the Alpendorf mountain railway in St. Johann in the Pongau, the following two hikes are especially recommended:

Wanderung zum Speicherteich und SonntagskogelHike to Sonntagskogel and back

Ride up with the Alpendorf cable car and then walk towards Gernkogel. From there continue towards Hirschkogel/Sonntagskogel. Walk around the Sonntagskogel reservoir lake. Here, benches and hammocks invite you to linger. After the reservoir lake, a forest path leads slightly downhill to the Maurachalm. From there, continue upwards towards Sattel Auhofalm. Here you have the option to ascend to the 1.839 m high Sonntagskogel. Then return to Gernkogel where the round trip ends. (Duration approx. 3 hours)

5-meadows hike

This hike also starts at the mountain station of the Alpendorf gondola lift with a hike to the Gernkogel. From there continue towards Hirschkogel/Sonntagskogel. Walk around the Sonntagskogel reservoir lake. Here, benches and hammocks invite you to linger. After the reservoir lake, a forest path leads slightly downhill to the Maurachalm, the first of five alpine pastures on your way. Continue to the Muggenfeldalm, Unterwandalm, Karsegg-Heimalm, and the Breitenebenalm. The return to Alpendorf is best done by bus and taxi.
