You will receive the Salzburger Sportwelt Guest Card directly from your accommodation provider. The guest card is personalised and valid for the duration of your stay. Please take the guest card with you wherever you go, as you will need to show it in order to benefit from the discounts.

Some of the benefits of the guest card: discounts on various mountain railways in the region, the Liechtenstein Gorge, the Sportwelt bus and much more.

To drive on the motorway, you must purchase an Austrian motorway vignette. These are available at petrol stations and in newsagents and tobacconists (Trafik, Kiosk).

There are two campsites in St. Johann in Salzburg, open all year round:

If you’re travelling by bus to the Alpendorf ski resort or to Geisterberg in summer, that’s no problem at all. There are bus car parks right next to the valley station of the Alpendorf Bergbahnen.

• Summer: Tenne car park
• Winter: Depending on your arrival time, either the main car park or the Tenne car park.

The post office is situated right in the town centre, very close to the tourist information office.

You can buy souvenirs and postcards in newsagents and tobacconists (Trafik, Kiosk). Geisterberg merchandise is available directly at the ticket office of the Alpendorf Bergbahnen.

Yes, there are ski storage facilities. Right next to the Alpendorf gondola lift, in the main building on the car park level or on the first floor.

Yes! You can take the Alpendorf gondola lift to the mountain station. The hiking trail starts right next to the cross-country ski trail from there. You can find all the winter walking trails in St. Johann, complete with full details, on our tour map.

Yes, the ski bus is free if you have a valid ski pass or are wearing winter sports clothing. You can find all the information about the routes herer.

There are separate pedestrian tickets for the winter. Here, guests can travel as pedestrians as far as the Strassalm. You can meet up, for example, at the Gondl Stub’n, Gernkogelalm or Strassalm.

Yes, dogs are allowed on the Geisterberg. In summer, there is a separate tickett.

Most of the paths are suitable for pushchairs. However, an outdoor pushchair with good wheels is recommended. Toddlers are best carried in a baby carrier, though.

No, the best way to get to the Geisterberg is by the Alpendorf gondola lift. You can drive as far as the Sternhof and park there. From there, you’ll have to continue on foot.

In general, dogs are permitted on a short lead (leash compulsory!). Please note that there are 440 steps (some of which are grating steps) to climb each way. This can be a major challenge for your four-legged friends and may lead to injuries.

It is the dog owner’s responsibility to decide whether or not their dog is capable of managing the walk through the gorge, which involves numerous steps and narrow sections with oncoming traffic. Experience has shown that dogs are often overwhelmed in the Liechtenstein Gorge, and therefore a visit with your four-legged friend is not recommended.

Dog socks are available to buy at the gorge landlady’s souvenir shop to protect your dog’s paws.

By car:
Via the A 10 – Tauern Motorway, take the Pongau junction exit, then follow the B 311 – the Pinzgau federal road – via Bischofshofen for approx. 6 kilometres towards St. Johann, then take the “Knoten SÜD” exit. Follow the “Großarler Landesstraße” towards Alpendorf and Großarl; after about 700 metres, turn left and then immediately take the next right-hand turn. You are now on the Liechtensteinklammstraße; follow this for a further approx. 3 km until you reach the car parks at the Liechtensteinklamm.

From the town centre, take the Citybus to the Glückauf-Plankenau terminus; from there, it’s a leisurely 20-minute walk to the gorge

Yes, there is a railway station in St. Johann im Pongau. St. Johann is situated on the ÖBB (Austrian Federal Railways) core network, on the Westbahn line between Salzburg, Zell am See and Wörgl.

Local trains run every half hour (REX and S3), and numerous long-distance trains stop here several times a day. In addition, Citybus routes 51 and 53, as well as bus routes 530 and 540, which connect St. Johann im Pongau with the neighbouring towns of Wagrain-Kleinarl, Großarl and Hüttschlag, stop at the station.

As the district capital, St. Johann is the hub for numerous public bus services to the surrounding towns: bus routes 530 and 540, which connect St. Johann im Pongau with the neighbouring towns of Wagrain-Kleinarl, Großarl and Hüttschlag. St. Johann has a well-developed city bus network serving the various districts.

The bus network throughout the entire municipal area (including Alpendorf) of St. Johann is free of charge.

Buses within St. Johann are free for everyone to use. Bus tickets for journeys outside St. Johann can be purchased directly from the bus driver or online.

You can buy train tickets either online, from the ticket machine at the station, or from the ÖBB sales partner Tabak-Trafik Fankhauser. The nearest staffed ticket office is at Bischofshofen station.

The city of Salzburg is very easily accessible by train from St. Johann. Local trains (REX and S3) run every half hour between Salzburg and St. Johann.
